
Bishop Claude Calvin Turner is the seventh child of the late Bishop Fred Lee Turner Sr. and Mrs. Lillie Turner of Winston-Salem. He was born in Walnut Cove North Carolina, but moved to Winston-Salem NC with at an early age. He attended the Forsyth County School System. He is a graduate of Carver High School and attended Forsyth Technical Institute in Winston-Salem NC. He later joined the United States marine Corp and completed an honorable tour of duty.
In 1975 Bishop Turner answered God’s call and entered into the ministry and was ordained and Elder under the body of the United bible Way Churches of Christ. His first church was in South Carolina, but in February 1981 he decided to move back to Winston-Salem and open a church in a small store front on Waughtown Street he named it Calvary Hill Apostolic United Bible Way Church. It wasn’t long before the membership outgrew the small space and God blessed the church with a larger building, and in October 1982, Calvary Hill relocated to 2411 Urban Street. The church later received it’s own charter.
In 1992 Bishop Turner met his love and best friend Virginia M. Williams, they were married on May 6, 1995. Together they have four children: Tonya, Eric, Jermaine and Jacinta, seven grandchildren and one goddaughter (Brandi).
In July 1996 Elder Claude C. Turner was ordained a Bishop by the late Bishop Alonzo McCloud Pastor of Tabernacle of faith Church in Winston-Salem, and Rev. Lula Williams Pastor of Hartland A.M.E. Church in Morganton, North Carolina. After his ordination Bishop Turner re-name the church to Calvary Hill Church of Greater Deliverance, Inc. And in 1997 the church move to a bigger building (the present)4951 Manning Street.
Today, Calvary has incorporated move churches under the body, Judah Praise and Worship Center in Winston-Salem, Believer Tabernacle of Greater Deliverance, in Baltimore Md. and Cornerstone Church of Greater Deliverance ,in Maryland.
